Silicone Engineering launches cutting-edge anti-microbial silicone rubber
Multinational silicone manufacturer, Silicone Engineering, has launched an innovative new material that prevents strains of harmful bacteria.
Suitable for use in a range of applications and environments, the amazing material, neutraSil™, is always completely safe when exposed to people both in public and industrial environments.
Ideal for industries such as healthcare, food and pharmaceuticals, neutraSil™ is highly efficient in the inhibition of bacterial growth.neutraSil™ works by absorbing bacteria and microbes, breaking down cell walls and inhibiting their development.
The ‘silver ions’ present in neutraSil™ provide ongoing protection by preventing further contamination and colonisation on the surface of the silicone.
neutraSil™ has been independently proven to inhibit the growth and strains of MRSA, E.coli and Salmonella.
It has been tested to the Japanese Industrial Standard, which measures antibacterial activity in hydrophobic materials, and complies with the requirements of the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.

Aseptic valves at Anuga FoodTec
Krones some time ago market-launched its EvoGuard series of valves, which includes all the valve types required in a beverage plant. Starting with disk valves in modularised design, plus single-seat valves for simple shutoff operations at pipes, double-seal valves as an affordable alternative for media separation, all the way through to double-seat valves for highly automated function sequences.
The very latest innovation, to be premiered at the Anuga FoodTec trade fair, is aseptic valves that are used as seat valves for hermetically dependable shutoff of pipes or as aseptic double-seat valves for separating media in aseptic and sterile processes.

FrieslandCampina Imlek and Mlekara Subotica in South-East Europe
FrieslandCampina and Salford Capital Partners have signed a Memorandum of Understanding regarding the acquisition of Imlek and Mlekara Subotica. This acquisition will add the activities of both companies in the Western Balkans to the FrieslandCampina network. Salford Capital Partners currently holds majority stakes in the two dairy companies of approximately 79% and 82% respectively. The companies’ shares are traded on the Belgrade Stock Exchange. FrieslandCampina intends to acquire the remaining shares. This is the first substantial acquisition since the merger between Friesland Foods and Campina in 2008.
FrieslandCampina’s route2020 strategy is designed to increase worldwide its position in dairy-based beverages, infant nutrition and branded cheese and to generate maximum value for the milk produced by the cooperative’s member farmers.
This is the first major acquisition since the merger between Friesland Foods and Campina.
Imlek has activities under various brand names in Serbia, Montenegro, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, while Mlekara Subotica has activities in Serbia. This, together with FrieslandCampina’s current activities in Hungary, Romania and Greece, will give the group access to a total of about 76 million consumers in the region.

Heavy Investments in the Russian Dairy Sector
Olam International , an integrated supply chain manager and processor of agricultural products and food ingredients, may invest up to $500 million in Russia's dairy sector, the business daily Vedomosti reported on Monday.
The newspaper, citing agriculture ministry sources, said that Singapore-based Olam may invest from $400 million to $500 million within three to five years into developing dairy farms through the Russian company Rusmolco.
Singapore-listed Olam said yesterday that it will invest up to US$75 million for a 75 per cent stake in Rusmolco. This is through a combination of capital injection and purchase of Rusmolco shares.
Additional capital expenditure of US$320 million is to be committed by Rusmolco over the next four to five years in a Phase 1 expansion to raise the number of dairy farms it owns to 11 from seven.
Beyond the first five years of the partnership, Rusmolco plans to more than double its milking cow population, which will help raise its annual milk output to 500 million litres.
It will also raise its area under cultivation to 130,000 ha, and hopes to invest in sugar cultivation, milling and refining. All these will hopefully be done within three to four years after the initial five-year period.

Irish Dairy Board secures additional €100 million for dairy expansion under €350 million re-financing
The Irish Dairy Board (IDB) has completed the re-financing of its existing €250m syndicated banking facility replacing it with a new three year syndicated bank loan facility of €350m at competitive pricing, to meet domestic expansion and international growth requirements.
This new facility comprises two parts: a €160m syndicated loan facility to fund IDB’s existing requirements and to invest in developing its international growth strategy; and a €190m committed syndicated Reverse Invoice Discounting facility (RID)* to fund the working capital requirements of IDB’s members. This will provide IDB’s members with an additional €50m and greater security of funding, replacing the previous uncommitted working capital funding lines provided heretofore by IDB to its members.
The RID will be used by IDB as the platform to develop a scalable funding solution to finance the increase in working capital requirements that will arise as a result of the anticipated increased milk expansion post the abolition of milk quotas in 2015.
